Summer Candy

Fun Fair Foods You Can Have at Home

It’s time to head to the fair! Yes, it’s that time of the year and we can’t be more excited. Of course, one of the biggest reasons people visit fairs is for the food. After all, where can you get giant pieces of bacon on a stick or just about anything battered and deep-fried?

Along with food, fairs are famous for sweets, treats, and of course candy. Let’s take a look at some of our favorite fun fair treats that we stock and supply to many of the stands you may be visiting when you hit the fair.

Popcorn
No visit to a fair or carnival is complete without stopping for popcorn. But skip the plain variety and go for some of the more delicious (and weird) flavors that are offered. Some of our favorite types of flavored popcorn include milk chocolate and caramel sea salt and… believe it or not… dill pickle! Popcorn is perfect for snacking, so if you can’t make it to the fair, be sure to pick up a bag or two from our great selection.

Cotton Candy
If you asked us years ago if there would ever be cotton candy flavors such as bacon, beer, or churro, we’d give you a crazy look! But this is 2021 and not only are those flavors of cotton candy available but you’ll also find unique ones such as jalapeno, pizza, and once again… dill pickle! Just in case you can’t find all of these flavors at your county fair, we have them ready to ship right to your door including the standard flavors you grew up with.

Sunflower Seeds
While popular at little league baseball games, believe it or not, sunflower seeds are also a popular fair treat. Many vendors roast and salt them right before your eyes and serve them up still warm. Now that we have your mouth watering for this salty treat, you can grab a few bags of DAVID Sunflower Seeds in the original flavor, ranch and even BBQ! But guess what? We also have sunflower seeds in… dill pickle flavor!

Pickles!
You knew we couldn’t end this without having actual pickles to talk about! Many vendors at fairs have barrels and barrels of pickles in many different flavors besides your standard dill pickle. You don’t have to head to the fair to get your pickle fix. We have individually packaged pickles in traditional dill, hot, and Kosher garlic. Keep them nice and cold in the fridge and break them out for a healthy snack.

Of course, no visit to the fair would be complete without coming home without some vendor’s homemade candy, so be sure to support your local family-owned businesses and grab some fudge or taffy on the way out!

If you had a vacation planned in 2020, chances are it was canceled and you’re itching to get away. We know we are! We’re all ready to hit the road, take to the skies, sail on the sea, or take us to wherever adventure beckons whether for a week or just a quick weekend getaway.

Whatever your vacation plans are, don’t leave without the snacks and we’re serving up some of our all-time favorite road trip treats and snacks. So buckle up, sit back, and let’s see what we’re tucking away in our goodie bags:

Welch’s Fruit Snacks

Kids love them, adults love them, and there’s no mess to clean up if you hit a pothole!

Beef Jerky Snacks
For bigger snack cravings, nothing hits the spot like some flavorful beef jerky. Bring along a box of Slim Jims, a bag of Jack Link’s Jerky, or some Buffalo Bill’s Beef Sticks. There are so many different flavors of these beef treats, you’ll keep everyone in the family happy and full until it’s time for dinner.

Lance Peanut Butter Crackers
Here’s a classic snack that comes along with a side of nostalgia. You grew up snacking on Lance crackers, so keep the tradition going by taking along some of these peanut butter crackers that definitely hit the spot and will crush the hunger pangs. Made with real peanut butter!

Theatre Size Candy
Extra long road trips call for extra big snacks! So don’t settle for regular packs of your favorite treats like M&Ms, Swedish Fish, Mike & Ike, and Junior Mints… go for the movie theatre size boxes of these favorites and more. Yes, these are the exact same size boxes you get at the theatre concession stand, so you know they’re packed with scrumptious sweets.

Starburst Zero Sugar Drink Mix
Why settle for plain old water when you can give it a “burst” of flavor? Starburst Zero Sugar Drink Mix packs are designed to be mixed into a standard bottle of water. Just pour in the mix, give the bottle a good shake, and volia! You have the delicious taste of Starburst fruit candy in liquid form.

Nobody wants to be cranky during a road trip, so be sure you stock up on all your favorite snacks before hitting the road. Check out more of our recommendations to make your trip hunger pain-free.

Make Summer Fun with these Candy Drinks, Games, and More!

Summer is almost here and it’s time to start thinking about keeping cool, keeping the kids busy, planning some fun family activities, and for parents – surviving until school starts again! But fear not – we’ve come up with some sweet ways to accomplish all those goals and have some fun along the way.

Let’s start off with one of our favorite ways to cool off on a hot summer day. Whether you’re hanging out at the pool, kicking back on the front porch, or staying inside with the air conditioning, nothing refreshes more than an ice-cold glass of Jolly Rancher Lemonade.

To make this cool summer beverage all you need is Jolly Rancher candies and your favorite fresh-squeezed or store-bought lemonade. Take a few Jolly Ranchers, approximately two or three for each cup of lemonade, and place them unwrapped in a microwave-safe glass measuring cup.

Fill the cup with just enough lemonade to cover the candies and microwave on high for 60 – 90 seconds. When the cycle is complete, give them a stir. If the candies didn’t fully dissolve, give them more time in the microwave until they do. Just make sure you stir them up after each heating.

Once they are fully dissolved, transfer them to your favorite glass, add additional lemonade and serve chilled or on ice. Experiment with different flavors of Jolly Ranchers to make a unique flavored lemonade each time!

If the kids are looking for a game to play, we’ve got one that’s fun to play and can be eaten when they’re all played out.

To make a Candy Tic-Tac-Toe game, start off with everyone’s favorite licorice treat, TWIZZLERS. Cut the TWIZZLERS Twists into equal lengths and arrange them into a tic-tac-toe grid.

Then give each player five HERSHEYS KISSES of the same color. Players take turns putting their candy KISSES on the grid until one gets three in a row and is declared the winner. By the way, this is a perfect game for birthday parties!

One of our favorite things to do on a summer night is to sit around a fire and make S’mores! These three-ingredient bites of bliss are so simple to make and are so sinfully delicious. To make smores, gather up graham crackers, marshmallows, and HERSHEYS Chocolate Bars.

To make S’mores, simply place a marshmallow on the end of a stick and heat it over the fire until it’s golden brown. Place the marshmallow between two pieces of graham cracker with a piece of HERSHEYS chocolate. The heat from the marshmallow will melt the chocolate just enough to make it soft.

If you want to make this treat even more delicious, skip the graham cracker and just sandwich the marshmallow between two pieces of chocolate!

Now, one final note! If you’re sending the kids off to summer camp, you’ll want to make sure they have everything they will need to survive their adventure. Socks, underwear, plenty of shirts and shorts, and… candy!

No good explorer ever discovered anything without having a supply of snacks and sweets to get the adventure started. Our Camp Survival Kit is packed with more than 50 pieces of candy and snacks that will satisfy when the craving hits and a convenience store is an hour away!

Best Parade Candy 2021 Edition!

With COVID-19 restrictions easing up around the country, this summer is shaping up to be one full of fun, surprises, and plenty of outdoor activities. There’s one activity we’re all looking forward to – neighborhood festivals and bazaars! These events usually kick off with a big parade to get everyone hyped up and in a festive mood.

If you’re planning a parade for your fire company, church, neighborhood association, or other organization, you already know that engaging spectators along the parade route is a must. The sweetest way to do it is to toss candy into the crowd.

Think about how exciting it was for you, as a child, to try to catch a piece of bubble gum or a Tootsie Roll as they were thrown from fire engines. Of course, you always sought out the Mayor as he was the one who handed out giant lollipops!

Candy and parades go hand-in-hand and this year everyone in the neighborhood is even more deserving of a sweet treat, so we’re highlighting some of our favorite parade candy that you can purchase in bulk to toss on your route.

Tootsie Frooties
Here’s a giant 4lb bag of everyone’s favorite chewy candy. Just how many Tootsies are there? How about more than 550! This bag contains an assortment of the most popular flavors which include green apple, strawberry, grape, pink lemonade, passion fruit, blue raspberry, fruit punch and lemon lime.

Sweetarts Twists
It doesn’t get any bigger than this! 30 whopping pounds of Sweetarts are in this mega box that is perfect for tossing at your parade. In fact, one of our customers reviewed this item and said, “We bought these for a parade. They worked great. Good quality. It is amazing how heavy 30lb of Sweetarts are.” Now you can’t go wrong with a review like that!

Jolly Rancher
Nobody can resist the delicious flavors of Jolly Rancher hard candies and they’re perfect for parades. This 5lb bag contains more than 375 pieces in an assortment of flavors that include watermelon, apple, cherry, grape, and blue raspberry.

Double Bubble Bubble Gum
No article about parade candy would be complete without talking about bubble gum. Our favorite for parades is Double Bubble and we have it in a big tub that contains 300 pieces of gum in the original Double Bubble flavor as well as watermelon, apple, and grape.

Now here’s a hint when it comes to selecting parade candy. Chocolate melts! You’re going to want to avoid tossing out miniature candy bars or any type of candy that can melt in the heat. While our huge candy warehouse is climate controlled, once orders leave our warehouse they are transported in non-airconditioned delivery trucks. Chocolate and the summer heat aren’t really the best of friends. So choose your parade candy wisely and feel free to contact us for suggestions and how we can make your parade a huge success!

Cool Candy for Hot Summer Days

When summer turns on the heat, a sweet treat coupled with an ice cold glass of lemonade is perfect for an afternoon snack break. Because chocolate doesn’t do to well in hot weather, we have some go-to treats that are perfect for the summer and won’t melt.

Licorice
Black or red, what’s your favorite? While the debate rages on as to which is better, there’s one thing we all can agree on… everyone loves licorice! Whether it’s in the traditional rope form such as Twizzlers, or the nostalgic licorice wheels that bring back memories of the penny candy days and the corner candy store. Licorice is a perfect summer snack because it stands up to the heat, is easy to pack in a lunchbox, take along for a picnic, or enjoy at the beach.

Gum
From Big League Chew and Bazooka to Wrigley’s and everything in between, chewing gum keeps dry mouth at bay during the summer months and comes in so many different flavors. If you spend a lot of time outdoors whether working or playing, there’s a gum made especially for you! Quench Sports Gum is designed to do what it’s name implies – quench your thirst and it’s perfect for sports teams and little leagues.

Lollipops
Summer and lollipops go hand in hand. We bet you remember being a child walking around a county fair or an amusement park with a gigantic lollipop in hand! These sweet treats have been around for more than a century and are available in multiple flavors with or without a candy or bubblegum center. Tootsie Pops, Charms Blow Pops, and Whirly Pops are great for kids of all ages to enjoy all summer long.

Jelly Beans
Colorful, delicious, and available in so many unique flavors, jelly beans are one of our favorite summer sweets. For those who like a variety of flavors, Jelly Belly jelly beans won’t disappoint. They’re known for creating some very unique flavors as well as the classics such as a bag of all black licorice jelly beans. For those with special dietary needs, they also offer individual snack size bags of sugar free jelly beans.

When choosing summer candy, stay away from picking types that will melt. Chocolate, as you know, won’t hold up well in the heat so opt for sweets such as the ones we listed here so you won’t be disappointed.

Lucky Charms Marshmallows Snack and Treat Recipe Suggestions

The other day we shared the “Best Rice Krispies Treats Recipe” which if you didn’t whip up a batch yet, you should! Desserts and treats made with marshmallows are perfect for any time of the year, but are especially great for summer picnics and cookouts.

While dreaming about those delicious marshmallow krispies treats, we started thinking about adding a little twist to them by incorporating some of our colorful marshmallow bits into them! These mini marshmallows are the ingredient that everyone loves in Lucky Charms cereal, but not too many know that they’re available to purchase in bulk all by themselves.

Now that we have your attention, these charms marshmallow bits come in both an 8oz and 5lb bag and can be used in a variety of ways. Today, we’re going to share a few of them.

Marshmallows and Candy in Bulk | BlairCandy.com

First, let’s talk about those Rice Krispies Treats. You can go about this two different ways. If you want to keep these treats a little on the traditional side but with a splash of color, follow the original recipe and add in a handful or two of our charms marshmallow bits to the Rice Krispies cereal. These won’t melt as much as the regular marshmallows will, so they’ll retain their shape and texture.

If you want to go a different route and substitute Lucky Charms cereal for the Rice Krispies, you can do that as well! But since we all know there’s never enough marshmallow in Lucky Charms, we recommend adding some additional marshmallow bits to the recipe.

Here’s a dessert or even a snack that you can make and take with you to a BBQ or picnic and it looks simply delicious! Lucky Charms Munch is a pretty simple recipe to make that has just a handful of ingredients – pretzels, M&Ms, white chocolate melts, Lucky Charms marshmallows, and some sprinkles to top it off.

The recipe for this eye-catching treat is simple, doesn’t require you to use the stove, and is ready in under a half-hour.

A third way to incorporate our marshmallow bits is the easiest and one to surely cool everyone down on a hot summer day. Grab your favorite flavor of ice cream, top it off with some chocolate syrup, sprinkles, whipped cream, and these marshmallows! How simple and delicious is that?

By now you’re probably saying, “wow, I’m “lucky” I found this post!” We’re happy you did and we hope you enjoy some of our suggestions for enjoying a popular ingredient in cereal to make some fantastic snacks and desserts.

Taffy – A Nostalgic Candy Sure to Spark Summertime Memories

Summer is the time of year for creating memories. After all, it’s when most of us plan our vacation – a time for some well deserved rest and relaxation with our family. No matter how old we are, we always seem to recall something from a vacation past.

One summertime memory for many of us is a vacation to the shore complete with the smell of the ocean, walks along the beach, and visiting the many shops that line the boardwalk. One shop that always catches the attention of passerby is the salt water taffy shop.

People line up at the big windows looking in as candy makers pull, roll, and wrap thousands of pieces of taffy a day. After watching it being made, there’s no chance you’re walking away without stopping in to buy a box or two.

Salt Water Taffy

Salt Water Taffy

Taffy has been around since the 1880’s with the “salt water” version originating in Atlantic City, NJ where it’s still made and enjoyed year round. There isn’t any difference between the two varieties other than the folklore surrounding how salt water taffy got its name.

Since the first piece of hand-made taffy was rolled over a century ago, major candy companies began to capitalize on the sweet treat. Today the most popular taffy brands are Laffy Taffy and Air Heads. Both offer tasty chews in a variety of flavors including grape, raspberry, cherry and one that may surprise you – banana!

Laffy Taffy Banana

While these brands of taffy may be more familiar with the younger generation, the older folks among us may remember some nostalgic candy that’s still being made – Bonomo Turkish Taffy.

Turkish Taffy isn’t truly taffy, it’s actually categorized as nougat. It’s also not from Turkey, it was originally made in Coney Island New York after World War II. However, it’s creator and founder of the Bonomo Company, immigrated to New York from Turkey, hence the connection.

Turkish Taffy was invented in 1912 and was sold in stores and candy counters throughout its run before the brand was purchased by Tootsie Roll in 1980. In 1989, the once popular taffy-hybrid was discontinued. But like many stories, this one too has a happy ending!

Bonomo Turkish Taffy

Bonomo Turkish Taffy

In 2010, the candy was brought back to life by the Bonomo Turkish Candy Company and has been manufacturing the classic candy in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and… you guess it – banana!

Since its reintroduction ten years ago, Turkish Taffy remains one of our most popular nostalgic treats in our lineup of classic candy.

While nothing can compare to freshly made taffy from one of those boardwalk candy stores, all of the taffy we sell is guaranteed to bring back some of those great summer time memories of those trips to the shore and peering into that window.

The History of Gummy Candy – One of our Favorite Snacks

When you think of gummy candy, the first thing that comes to mind is Gummi Bears, of course. Everyone seems to love these colorful, fruit flavored snacks but we bet you don’t know the history of this “bear-y delicious” candy.

The gummy bear was born in Germany, a creation of candy maker Hans Riegel Sr., who got the idea of creating a bear shaped candy after seeing trained bears perform in street shows throughout Europe. In 1922, he introduced the first gummy candy which he named Dancing Bear which became the predecessor of the candy we know and love today.

The popularity of Riegel’s Dancing Bear spawned a slightly smaller version of the treat which was introduced in 1967 called Gold-Bears. These are the gummi bears we gobble up by the millions today and are still manufactured by Riegel’s company – Haribo.

Haribo Gold-Bears gummi bears

Gold-Bears gummi candy comes in five delicious flavors: raspberry (red); orange (orange); strawberry (green); pineapple (colorless); and lemon (yellow).

The success Haribo had with their gummy candy over the years spawned other candy manufacturers to get into the business of gummies making this type of sweet snack one of the most popular around the world.

Besides the original bear, gummi candy can be found in all shapes, sizes and flavors. Some of the more unique ones include:

Gummy Sharks
There’s nothing fishy about these gummy sharks that are big sellers a few times a year – especially when it’s Shark Week on TV or during the summer when you’re hosting a JAWS viewing party from your swimming pool.

Cola Bottles
These are now manufactured by a few different candy companies, but Haribo’s Happy Cola gummy bottles are one of our faves. Shaped like a classic Coca Cola bottle, you’ll want to pop one open for a cola-like treat.

Gummy Worms
Next to gummi bears, gummy worms are the most popular gummy candy. They’re used for ice cream toppings, creepy Halloween treats, or just as a snack that kids love to eat to say “I ate a worm!”

There you have it! A little history of the gummy bear that started it all and some of our top picks. Be sure to check out all the different types of gummy candy that we stock.

Tips for Planning a Perfect Family Movie Night Complete with Candy and Snacks!

Looking for fun things to do at home with your family now that spring is here and summer is right around the corner? We previously talked about fun activities such as making S’mores and whipping up a batch or two of delicious Rice Krispies Treats using our new kits. Today, our sights are set on Movie Night!

Movies are a great way to bring the whole family together for an hour or two of wholesome entertainment. Here’s some tips for planning a movie night with your family:

  1. Pick the venue! You don’t need to get in your car for family movie night, have everyone vote on whether to screen the chosen movie either indoors or outdoors. Inflatable movie screens and projectors for outdoor viewing are readily available online and they’re not as expensive as you may think.
  2. Pick the movie! Will it be a comedy, mystery, thriller, or a classic like Mary Poppins? Let everyone pick one movie they would like to see, and then either vote or randomly pull a title out of a hat to choose the evening’s flick.
  3. Pick the snacks! We admit, this is our favorite part of planning for family movie night and there’s no shortage of recommendations, so let’s roll film on some great movie candy and snacks.

Popcorn
Nobody can watch a movie without snacking on popcorn, so having this snack on hand is considered a must. We like to make ours the old fashioned way, on the stove or in an popper, as opposed to the microwave.

Concession Stand Size Snacks
If you really want to get creative, you can setup a concession stand somewhere in your house where everyone can go and pick out a snack or two to take into the “theatre.” Of course, since this is movie night, skimpy size bags of candy won’t cut it. You need the big sizes just like they sell at your local theatre’s concession stand. We’ve got a huge selection of movie theatre size candy to choose from including all time favorites like Jujyfruits, Mike & Ike, and of course, Twizzlers.

Helpful Tip: Choose your candy wisely!  It’s warm out there this time of year, so choose candy that won’t melt during transit.  Gummy candy, licorice and other types that won’t melt are what we recommend so your audience isn’t disappointed by a melted mess of chocolate.

Theme Candy to the Movie
Now’s here where you can become the star of movie night. If you’re going to be watching the classic film JAWS, be sure to order a bag of gummy sharks!

Watching a Disney movie featuring Mickey Mouse and pals? Don’t forget to order some bags of Mickey and Minnie Mouse Jelly Belly jelly beans.

There’s so many different ways to pair candy with the type of movie your watching, so put your thinking cap on and use the search feature on our site to come with the perfect movie-candy pairing.

Cotton Candy
Cotton candy, or candy floss, isn’t just found at fairs and carnivals and you don’t need a machine at home to make it for your night at the movies. We have ready-to-eat cotton candy in a rainbow of flavors that makes it easy to add this sweet treat to your lineup.

Planning a family movie night isn’t hard and everyone can play a role in making it come to life. So pick your movie, order your candy and snacks, and get ready to yell… roll film!

Our Favorite Summertime Candy

There are so many things to like about summer, it’s hard to keep track! From relaxing outside in the warmth of the sun, to taking in a ball game, or having friends over for a backyard BBQ, summertime activities are abundant.

When it comes to summer candy favorites, well, we can narrow down not only ours, but our customer’s, top picks as well.

Big League Chew
Who can’t resist sitting in the stands watching a little league game while chewing our favorite bubble gum from the 80s, Big League Chew? This chewing gum was designed for ball games and it’s still a fan favorite. It’s sports-themed pouches contain big wads of shredded bubble gum to resemble the big leaguer’s chew. Since its introduction in the decade known for big hair and great music, Big League Chew remains a big seller all year round, especially during the summer.

Swedish Fish
Gummy candy is a year-round favorite, but there’s just something about Swedish Fish that bring back so many summer memories. Maybe it’s those walks down to the corner store when “penny candy” was still a thing and walking home with paper bags full of these delicious treats. Besides the original flavor of Swedish Fish, Blair Candy was able to bring back a long-forgotten flavor – grape! Yes, now you can have grape gummy fish along with the original.

Whirly Pops
No list of summertime candy favorites would be complete without including lollipops and we’ve included the big ones! Whirly Pops are huge 3” round lollipops in swirls of colors that kids just love. These big suckers remind us of beach days and walks on the boardwalk and bring back some great memories of summers spent at the shore.

Cotton Candy
From fairs to concession stands, cotton candy reigns as a summertime favorite. However, if you’re longing for some sugary satisfaction but can’t find any Cotton Candy nearby, don’t worry, it’s only a click away and it’s available in a whole bunch of delicious flavors.

Sunflower Seeds
While not a candy, Sunflower Seeds have to be on our list of summertime favorites because of their popularity. They are one of the all-time biggest snacks consumed at baseball and little league games and are a concession stand staple. Their salty taste and “chew and spit” way of enjoying them is almost a big part of summer as sunshine itself!

We hope you found some of your summertime candy favorites in our list. If not, thousands of sinfully delicious treats are waiting for you at our store, be sure to click here to visit and find some faves of your own.
