Easter Candy by the Numbers

Chocolate rabbits, jelly beans, marshmallow PEEPS, and peanut butter eggs… they’re all Easter candy favorites that we wait all year for. Kids of all ages (yes, when it comes to candy we’re all kids at heart!) can’t get enough of all the delicious and decadent candy that is available at Easter.

But did you know that there are some very impressive numbers behind all that candy we consume? Let’s take a look:

16 Billion
That’s the number of jelly beans that are manufactured each year just for Easter! Whether you like fruit-flavored, spicy, or licorice-flavored jelly beans, there’s plenty of these sugary treats to go around. In fact, those 16 billion beans are enough to circle planet Earth a whopping three times.

Oh, and speaking of jelly beans… can you guess what color remains a favorite of kids? If you said “red” you’re correct!

70 Percent
While 16 billion jelly beans sound like a lot, in comparison to all Easter candy sold, chocolate remains the biggest seller. In fact, chocolate (milk, dark, and white) makes up 70% of all the candy sold during Easter time.

90 Million
With chocolate being the biggest seller, it’s no surprise that 90 million chocolate bunnies are produced every year. After all, no Easter basket would be complete without a solid milk chocolate rabbit.

Easter Candy Baskets

76 Percent
When you give in to the temptation and take that chocolate rabbit out of your Easter basket, where do you take the first bite? If you go for the ears, you’re not alone! 76% of us go straight to the top and eat the ears first.

2 Billion
With all the varieties of Easter candy available – from staples like Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs to more decadent and gourmet delights – we tend to spend a lot of money on these sweet indulgences. How much? Over $2-billion!

With Easter right around the corner, it’s time to stock up on all your favorites to fill up your baskets or hand out at egg hunts. Many of the candies are only manufactured once a year, so be sure to shop early to avoid missing out.

Our Favorite Gourmet Easter Candy

While the holiday most associated with candy is Halloween, it goes without question that the holiday most associated with gourmet, delicious, decadent candy is, of course, Easter.

In addition to plenty of Easter candy in bulk, such as jelly beans, Reese’s peanut butter eggs, and marshmallow PEEPs, Easter ushers in some once-a-year confectionary delights that many wait all year for, and for good reason. Let’s take a look at some!

Gardner’s Chocolate Easter Eggs
Gardner’s is known for hand-made candy since 1897, and even today, they make their chocolate delights with care and plenty of love – and it shows during Easter. One of the things they’re known for each year is their delicious and beautiful Easter eggs – our favorite being the Peanut Butter Meltaway.

This giant 8oz egg is filled with creamy peanut butter that will have your mouth watering the second you open the box. It’s then covered in rich milk chocolate and decorated beautifully.

In addition to the Peanut Butter Meltaway, their gourmet Easter eggs come in other flavors including coconut, cashew, butter creme, chocolate fudge, maple nut, nut, and this delicious fruit and nut chocolate egg:

Nestled inside the chocolate shell lies delicious pieces of pineapple, cherries, and mixed nuts enrobed in fabulous pure vanilla fondant.

All we can say is… wow! These eggs are a chocolate lover’s dream and since they’re only available once a year, sell out quickly so be sure to order your favorites soon.

Gourmet Chocolate Rabbits
What Santa is to Christmas, Peter Cottontail is to Easter and it goes without saying he’s been immortalized in chocolate for over a century. Chocolate rabbits have long been an Easter favorite and today they’re more than just a large piece of solid chocolate in the shape of a bunny.

One of our favorite chocolate rabbits is Gardner’s Peanut Butter Meltaway Bunny. Just like their Meltaway Egg we talked about a little bit ago, this milk chocolate rabbit is filled with the same delicious, creamy peanut butter that Gardner’s is known for.

Of course, if peanut butter isn’t your thing, or you’re looking for one of the most delicious chocolate rabbits available… look no further! Gardner’s Solid Milk Chocolate Rabbit is guaranteed to be the most delicious you’ve ever tasted. Their milk chocolate is second to none, and you won’t get more of it than right here with this solid bunny.

If you’re looking for a sugar-free option, we’ve got you covered. In fact, after just one bite of Gardner’s Sugar-Free Chocolate Bunny, you’ll wonder how it’s really sugar-free!

Gardner’s Toasted Coconut Nests
These not only look great, but they’re also simply delicious. These gourmet toasted coconut nests are made from fresh coconut mixed with Gardner’s delicious milk chocolate then topped with sweet jelly beans to make a great addition to your dessert table on Easter Sunday. While they may look too good to eat, we challenge you to eat just one!

There’s no doubt that Easter brings out some of the most delicious candy and we hope you try some gourmet Easter candy favorites for yourself. Our huge candy warehouse is full of Easter candy ready to ship directly to your doorstep in addition to Easter egg hunt candy and everyone’s favorite Easter PEEPs.

Fill Up Your Easter Basket with these Delicious Treats

Both kids and adults love to receive an Easter basket. These gifts have been a tradition that dates back to medieval Europe and giving and receiving a fanciful basket on Easter Sunday remains as popular as ever.

Crafting an Easter basket is pretty simple. Just find a suitable size basket, with or without a handle, line it with either decorative cloth or Easter grass, then fill it with gifts, candy, and trinkets then finish it off with a colorful ribbon and bow.

Some like to hide the basket at the completion of an Easter egg hunt to make it the grand prize for all the hard work that went into finding all those colorful, treat-filled eggs. Others place it out first thing in the morning for little ones to discover when they wake up.

Today we’re going to share some of our favorites that no Easter basket should be without:

Jelly Beans
Not only are jelly beans perfect for hiding in plastic eggs, but they’re also great for placing inside Easter baskets. Whether you’re looking for single-serve, packaged jelly beans, or beans in bulk, we have them available in traditional flavors right down to unique flavors such as Krispy Kreme Donuts and even Swedish Fish! Don’t worry, we have sugar-free varieties as well.

Chocolate Rabbits
No Easter basket would be complete without a chocolate rabbit or two! Available in milk, dark, and white chocolate as well as more unique flavors such as Fruity Pebbles and even a delicious REESE’s peanut butter-filled chocolate bunny.

Religious Chocolate
With Easter being a religious holiday, many opt to include a spiritual reference in their Easter baskets such as a chocolate cross or a simple set of chocolate praying hands.

Marshmallow PEEPS
You can’t put together an Easter basket without including PEEPS! This year, there are so many different varieties of Easter PEEPS you’ll have a hard time choosing which ones to get. But don’t worry, they’re all delicious! Choose from the traditional bunny and chick PEEPS or go for some of the more unique flavors, like fruit punch and sour watermelon, and new shapes such as Easter eggs and giant bunnies.

Celebrate the Return of Some Nostalgic Candy Favorites

Nostalgic candy lovers, we’ve got some news for you! Some candy you may recall as a youngster is back much to our delight.  Let’s take a step back in time and up to the present as we reacquaint you with some classics that are back and better than ever.

Teaberry Gum
Who can forget Clark’s Teaberry Gum? We certainly can’t! This nostalgic minty-tasting gum has been around for over 100 years but was wildly popular in the 1960’s. You may recall the television commercial featuring Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass introducing the world to the “Teaberry Shuffle.”

While Clark’s is long gone, Teaberry gum is back being made by a new manufacturer following the original recipe. Due to its popularity, we may be temporarily out of stock, but don’t worry – be sure to sign up to be notified when it’s back.

NECCO Chocolate Wafers
While the New England Confectionary Company went out of business several years ago, the candy they’re famous for lives on. Spangler Candy Company bought the recipe for a few NECCO favorites including the original candy wafer that was first introduced in 1847. We saw the return of this classic candy about a year ago, and now another flavor of NECCO wafers is about to reemerge – chocolate!

Yes, the chocolate NECCO wafer is back and there’s no better time than now to celebrate its return by ordering a box along with a box of the original. Now that both flavors are back, they’re attracting a whole new generation of fans and selling out quickly. If you see either flavor temporarily out of stock, simply sign up to be notified when they’re back.

Satellite Wafers
Now here’s one classic candy we’re sure you’ll remember. Satellite Wafers have been around since the early 1900’s and get their name from the round, flying saucer shape these light and delicious treats take. Inside the wafer are delicious candy “beads” that give the candy a burst of flavor.

When it comes to candy, we’re the experts! After all, we’ve been in the candy business for over 80 years. We’re always on the lookout for classic candy that has been brought back so we can make room for it in our huge candy warehouse, so fans all over the country can experience it again or for the first time. If you’re looking for an old time candy you haven’t seen in a while, check out our selection of nostalgic candy or contact us and we’ll let you know if it’s available or not.
