Looking for fun things to do at home with your family now that spring is here and summer is right around the corner? We previously talked about fun activities such as making S’mores and whipping up a batch or two of delicious Rice Krispies Treats using our new kits. Today, our sights are set on Movie Night!

Movies are a great way to bring the whole family together for an hour or two of wholesome entertainment. Here’s some tips for planning a movie night with your family:

1. Pick the venue! You don’t need to get in your car for family movie night, have everyone vote on whether to screen the chosen movie either indoors or outdoors. Inflatable movie screens and projectors for outdoor viewing are readily available online and they’re not as expensive as you may think.
2. Pick the movie! Will it be a comedy, mystery, thriller, or a classic like Mary Poppins? Let everyone pick one movie they would like to see, and then either vote or randomly pull a title out of a hat to choose the evening’s flick.
3. Pick the snacks! We admit, this is our favorite part of planning for family movie night and there’s no shortage of recommendations, so let’s roll film on some great movie candy and snacks.

Popcorn
Nobody can watch a movie without snacking on popcorn, so having this snack on hand is considered a must. We like to make ours the old fashioned way, on the stove or in an popper, as opposed to the microwave.

Concession Stand Size Snacks
If you really want to get creative, you can setup a concession stand somewhere in your house where everyone can go and pick out a snack or two to take into the “theatre.” Of course, since this is movie night, skimpy size bags of candy won’t cut it. You need the big sizes just like they sell at your local theatre’s concession stand. Helpful Tip: Choose your candy wisely!  It’s warm out there this time of year, so choose candy that won’t melt during transit.  Gummy candy, licorice and other types that won’t melt are what we recommend so your audience isn’t disappointed by a melted mess of chocolate.

Planning a family movie night isn’t hard and everyone can play a role in making it come to life. So pick your movie, order your candy and snacks, and get ready to yell… roll film!

A quick search on the Internet for “best Rice Krispies Treat recipe” will bring up many claiming to be “the best.” But is one really better than another? Possibly, but they all start out with butter, marshmallows, and Rice Krispies cereal.

We turned to the Rice Krispie Treats experts, Kellogg’s, for the “official” recipe for making these fantastic treats at home:

Ingredients:

• 3 tablespoons butter
• 1 package (10 oz., about 40) JET-PUFFED Marshmallows

— OR —

• 4 cups JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows
• 6 cups Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal

Directions:

1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
2. Add Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
3. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool. Cut into 2-inch squares. Best if served the same day.

Pretty simple, right?

There are so many things to like about summer, it’s hard to keep track! From relaxing outside in the warmth of the sun, to taking in a ball game, or having friends over for a backyard BBQ, summertime activities are abundant.

When it comes to summer candy favorites, well, we can narrow down not only ours, but our customer’s, top picks as well.

Big League Chew
Who can’t resist sitting in the stands watching a little league game while chewing our favorite bubble gum from the 80s, Big League Chew? This chewing gum was designed for ball games and it’s still a fan favorite. It’s sports-themed pouches contain big wads of shredded bubble gum to resemble the big leaguer’s chew. Since its introduction in the decade known for big hair and great music, Big League Chew remains a big seller all year round, especially during the summer.

Swedish Fish
Gummy candy is a year-round favorite, but there’s just something about Swedish Fish that bring back so many summer memories. Maybe it’s those walks down to the corner store when “penny candy” was still a thing and walking home with paper bags full of these delicious treats. Whirly Pops

Sunflower Seeds
