October 30th is National Candy Corn Day

Although you can acquire candy corn year-round, this classic is the most prominent during the fall season! Since Halloween is arguably the most candy-centric holiday, it makes sense that candy corn is strongly associated with this night of costumes and jack-o-lanterns. Did you know that candy corn actually has its own official holiday?

Candy Corn Packets |

October 30th, the day before Halloween, marks National Candy Corn Day! Observing this holiday takes very little effort and it really just acts as another excuse to enjoy some scrumptious candy corn. We know this sweet can be divisive with lovers and haters having very strong convictions regarding how they feel about it. You can’t deny the festive nature of this candy this time of year!

Originally called “Chicken Feed” candy corn came into the world in the 1880s in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was invented by George Renninger and manufactured by the Wunderle Candy Company; however, it was not until the turn of the century that it went into mass production by the Goelitx Candy company.

Candy Corn may be high in sugar – it is candy after all – but it is also fat-free, so that is definitely noteworthy. We carry a whole variety of candy corn, from classic to individual candy corn packets, and from football-shaped to chocolate-flavored. Head to to stock up!

Create Holiday Candy Boxes with Festive Treats

With the right chocolate and candy at hand, along with the right method in place, you can create festive holiday candy boxes to share with family and friends.

Mini Holiday Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups |

The Box – Your local craft store should have wonderful box options that you can choose from. Chinese takeout containers in festive colors like red and green are a great way to go! But they should have several options. Just choose what size is best for you.

The Filling – Similar to an Easter basket, it is wise to have some type of filling for the bottom to act as a bed for the treats you plan to place inside. Shredded or crinkle-cut bits of paper is an easy route that looks fantastic. You could also use cotton balls that are meant to look like snow.

The Treats – This is truly the fun part! Miniature holiday-themed candy Reese’s or Hershey’s Kisses wrapped in red, green, gold, or silver foil are a great place to start. You can also sprinkle in some chocolate Santa’s for good measure. A Christmas holiday PEZ dispenser makes a wonderful centerpiece for this box of candy. Get creative!

The Finishing Touch – Tie a ribbon around the box and attach a candy cane to the outside. Voila! Your holiday candy boxes are ready to be presented.

Candles – Even though we no longer require candlelight to see during meals, this addition brings a cozy ambiance and warmth to this meal that is so rich with tradition.

Bowls of Festive Candy – Choose small, decorative bowls to place deliberately across your thanksgiving table and fill them with autumn candy mix. Tasty options like the following will not only look lovely on your table but act as a fun nibble for guests to enjoy while they await the feast!
