Each year, peppermint patties are celebrated on February 11th. These favorite chocolately, minty treats have been around since the mid-1800’s, when four sons from the Isle of Man formed the Kendal Mint Cake Company.
Here in the states, peppermint patties were made as early as 1900 from companies based in Idaho and Minnesota. The most known (though not the oldest) is the York Cone Company of Pennsylvania (est. 1940), the makers of York Peppermint Patties. York stood out from the competition because while other popular peppermint patties were soft, York’s were firm and crispy.
