Stocking Stuffers That Look Good Enough to Eat…Because They Are!

If your Christmas Morning Agenda (CMA) is similar to mine, the first thing you reach for with one groggily-opened eye is your stocking. And apart from it simply being tradition, there are a few very good reasons the stocking gets top billing. Not only does it hold the little things I so love, but it’s also easy to drag back to the recliner with me where I can plop it in my lap and open everything slowly while I struggle to really wake up! Also, if Santa was good to me, I’ll find breakfast inside my stocking, too. And not the bacon and eggs variety…even better. The candy kind of breakfast. The kind you only get to enjoy on special holidays (and when no one’s looking; don’t judge me!)

While everyone’s Christmas candy preferences vary, with the possible exception of Reese’s Peanut Butter Trees, which I’m pretty sure everyone loves, we have a few nearly foolproof ideas for adding Christmas breakfast to the stockings you’re in charge of stuffing this year. It is, after all, the most important meal of the day – even Christmas Day. ;)

Marshmallow Christmas Lollipops – Ooey, gooey goodness in Santa and Snowmen shapes, these plump lollipops are almost too cute to eat. Except, well…no matter how cute they are I’ll eat them anyway! Just don’t eat them too close to the fire. Santa is a winter weather kinda guy, and we all know how well snowmen handle the heat. There’s a song and a movie about it and everything.

Milk Chocolate Hershey Snowman – Generously-sized at 3.5 ounces, this festive little fella is the perfect culinary complement to the Christmas lollipops above. Sometimes the simplest sweets are the best, and Hershey’s reminds us of that time and again with every holiday-themed incarnation of their classic milk chocolate bar. Or should we say mmmilk chocolate bar!

Gummy Peaches – With the marshmallow and chocolate food groups taken care of, it’s time to freshen the palate with something fruity and fun to wear on my fingertips. Yup – gummy peaches! Starting with the left hand, I push a gummy peach to the top knuckle of each finger, excluding the thumb. The right hand is next, and it’s admittedly a tad bit tougher with gummy peaches already on every finger of the left hand. Nevertheless, I press on! I then happily wiggle my 8 peachy digits at anyone who will pay attention to me, before consuming them one at a tasty time.

Now that you know a little more about my CMA, I’d love to hear about yours! Will you be sitting in your own recliner working your way through the candy food groups your stocking holds, or do have different traditions you’re looking forward to this year?

New Candy Picks You May Have Missed!

I am writing this post while curled up on the sofa, wrapped in a warm blanket, my mind and body swimming with sugar, surrounded by piles of empty wrappers. Yes…it’s Halloween night! I’ve consumed enough Laffy Taffy to giggle for days, and enough snack size chocolate bars to build a buffet. You might assume that having eaten more than my share of sweets, they would be the furthest thing from my mind, yet that is simply not the case! But instead of thinking of the traditional Halloween candy, of which I have just immensely partaken, my mind is on the Halloween candy of the future. Or, more specifically, the new candy of today that may become the traditional candy of the future.

With all the exciting new treats that are created every year, and the fact that most of us (myself included) most often eat the same few favorites we’ve been eating for as long as we can remember, it can be easy to miss some bright new stars in the candy circuit. But for as satisfying as Peanut M&Ms may be, and as perfectly sweet as Trolli Gummi Peaches, its only fair to give the new candies a taste as well, for their benefit and our own! After all, what if nobody every tried that first handful of Peanut M&Ms many years ago and they weren’t still with us today? I know, I’m sorry…I shouldn’t have gone there. It’s too horrible to imagine, but I’m trying to make a point, so bear with me! And my point is simply that we should take a peek and lend a taste bud or two to some of the newest candy creations…

Hershey’s Air Delight Chocolate Bars – You already know how delicious Hershey’s chocolate is, and that much of the enjoyment of eating chocolate is in relishing its many tantalizing consistencies, so it’s only natural to want to give a new consistency a try – aerated chocolate! Bursting with airy bubbles, the Air Delight bar is unlike anything you’ve ever tried before, while still being decidedly ‘Hershey’s.’

Skittles Blenders – As far as I’m concerned, with the possible exception of the green ones (sorry, green fans!), original Skittles are pretty much perfection in the non-chocolate category o’ candy. They’re my go-to favorite at the movies, I NEVER get tired of them, and even after all these years I can’t decide if I like the red or purple better. Ahh, they’re both so good! And the orange, and the yellow… Yes, original Skittles will make my ‘5 Candies You Can Bring to a Deserted Island List’ every time, no matter what. But for as strongly as I feel that the original is their best work, I have to admit that I’ve recently been more drawn to Skittles Blenders. It may be the rush of a new romance; the way the Melon Berry Burst makes me feel young again! It may be their brilliantly bright colors. It may be the way they dance across my tongue, exploding in a fruity splash of Skittles-tastic-ness! Whatever it is, please don’t tell original Skittles. I’m sure I’ll return to my true love one day, but for now I’m rather enjoying my Blenders adventures!

Sugar Free Peeps: A New Halloween Candy Must-Have!

It’s no secret that candy can be a sweet part of a balanced diet, whether you are on the path toward losing a few pounds, working to maintain your current weight, or are simply mindful of everything you eat on the journey to be as healthy as possible. What most of us have learned, whether we like it or not, is moderation is key! It turns out there is a difference between one serving of Peanut M&M’s and one bag of Peanut M&M’s. Oops. And as we all know too well, M&M’s are far from the only candy that makes a limit a tricky task. One other such treat is marshmallow Peeps.

Sure, we open the package knowing we should just have one or two. We open the package with the best of intentions. We open the package thinking, “These Peeps will last me a week! I will have no more than 2 per day, because I have self control!” But…that doesn’t always happen. And it’s not our fault! Once that ooey-gooey goodness touches the tongue, stepping on the brakes is so hard. Once that plump, pillow of sweet marshmallow finds its way to your mouth you are no longer responsible for what becomes of the package of Peeps. You are only human! Since the dawn of time, humans have been no match for marshmallows. It’s just science!

Shed no tears, marshmallow-lover. In this great battle between a balanced diet and that undefeated enemy – Peeps – there is someone in your corner. Someone you may have least expected. Yes, coming into the ring with an orange satin robe trailing behind is none other than Sugar Free Peeps! *The crowd goes wild!*

Who is this Sugar Free Peeps? What is the relation to regular Peeps? Don’t worry, there isn’t a soap opera-worthy family rivalry that you’ll find yourself smack dab in the middle of. Sugar Free Peeps and regular Peeps are practically besties! They’re both cute and colorful, and they both taste delicious. It’s just that the Sugar Free variety aren’t as likely to leave you bouncing off the walls at midnight because you accidentally ate six servings while you were watching Law & Order. They’re also a great choice for people who must closely watch their sugar intake, and those who simply prefer the taste of Splenda. As for me? I think I’ll keep both in the cupboard. I can “mmmm” my way through a pack of Sugar Free Peeps any day, but sometimes I like to bounce off the walls at midnight. When else is the bathroom going to get cleaned?! :)

Sugar Free and Gluten Free Halloween Candy at Blair!

Whether you are shopping for candy that works with your own dietary needs, or want to ensure that every Trick-or-Treater that stops by will find something that suits their needs in your bowl, our Sugar Free Halloween Candy and Gluten Free Halloween Candy sections are for you!

Following a gluten free or sugar-conscious diet can be tricky at times, and the holidays are perhaps the hardest times of all. But for as difficult as it can be to turn down a treat that it seems everyone but you can eat, you know you’re doing what’s best for you! And luckily, while you, your children, or a few Trick-or-Treaters may have restrictions on what they can consume, candy is not an all-or-nothing indulgence. In fact, BlairCandy.com offers a delicious assortment of sugar free candy and gluten free candy that would tempt any tastebud!

Gluten Free Halloween Candy

Many people are surprised by some of the candy they find in our gluten free selection. These aren’t specialty candies that you’ve never heard of – they’re favorites that we’ve all been happily enjoying for many years. They just happen to be gluten free as well as scrumdiddlyumptious! Some All-Stars you might recognize best include Butterfinger candy bars, M&M’s, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Gummy candy is also often gluten free, and your many mouthwatering options include Gummy Peaches, Trolli Strawberry Puffs, and a favorite of so many kids – Sour Gummy Worms!

Sugar Free Halloween Candy

What’s soft, orange, oh-so-yummy, and melts in your mouth? We’ll give you a hint…It’s not carrots, and it rhymes with ‘beeps’. Ohhh, it must be Peeps! But these aren’t just any Peeps; these are Sugar Free Peeps shaped like pumpkins! Each pack contains three petite Peep pumpkins sweetened with Splenda, ready to brighten your day the sugar free way.

Prefer something that lasts a little longer? Because let’s face it…if there are Peeps in the house, they don’t exactly get a lot of time in the pantry before they’re in someone’s belly. And for those times that you need a sugar free candy fix and the Peeps have gone missing, or you are filling a few sugar free Halloween treat bags to have at the ready, our selection of Brach’s sugar free hard candy makes a sweet choice. Choose from sugar free versions of candy classics we all love, including butterscotch hard candy and cinnamon hard candy.

To make it easy for kids and parents alike to know you have sugar free and gluten free candy available for Trick-or-Treaters, consider setting up 3 baskets or boxes to hold your Halloween treat bags. Simply attach a ‘Sugar Free Halloween Candy’ index card to one, and a ‘Gluten Free Halloween Candy’ index card to another to separate the sweets. Affixing the identifying cards with a clothespin should do the trick for your treats!

Cool, Colorful Halloween Lollipops Are Frighteningly Fun and Flavorful!

Just like a book, a person, and countless other things in life, you can’t always judge a candy by its cover. There are plenty of sweets out there that might not win a beauty contest, but are a beautiful treat to the tongue where it counts! But just as we can’t assume less-than-pretty candies won’t be delicious, we also can’t assume that candy with a cute, clever and colorful style is getting by on looks alone. Yes, some candies really do have it all – the eye-catching appeal, the delicious flavor, and in some cases, their own handle! OK, to be fair it’s not really a handle, it’s a stick. But it sure does make eating lollipops easier, and lollipops are what we’re looking at today. Halloween Lollipops, to be exact, since Halloween is fast on its way! :D

Coffin Creepers Halloween Lollipops – As if the clever coffin packaging wasn’t enough to make these a must-have, the adorable little creatures peeking out from the windows captured every heart at Blair the moment these arrived. One of my favorite things about Halloween is all things ‘scary cute’, and these are topping my list this year. As for the flavors, my personal fave is Bone Rattlin’ Blue Raspberry (plus, I can’t resist his oversize innocent smile!), but Vampire Very Cherry and Mummy Wrap Green Apple are scary good as well.

Crazy Bones Lollipops – These tiny little lollis feature a fruity, round lollipop top attached to…a plastic arm or leg! Yes, where you might expect the elbow or knee to be you’ll find candy instead, which means that while eating a Crazy Bones lollipops everyone sees a little hand or little foot peeking out of your mouth! As for the flavors, these come in an assortment of classics: orange, grape and green apple. And while we don’t know for sure, we think they taste better than a real arm or leg by a landslide!

Twister Terror Halloween Lollipops – These cherry-flavored lollipops have a funky, modern feel to them, but also have an element of classic candy charm with their twist design. This update on an old-fashioned candy store staple is re-imagined in the shades of Halloween – orange, black and white – and decked out with 4 awesome Halloween rings per pop before being wrapped and cinched with a black ribbon! These make a memorable treat for friends, family and trick-or-treaters, who always remember the houses that give out the best stuff!

Cool and Colorful Lollipops that Keep Up with the Trends!

While we would be happy to eat candy that was shaped like work boots if it tasted good, it is always fun for candy to be as cute, cool and unique as it is delicious! At Blair Candy, we keep on the lookout for the latest and greatest candy out there. We’ll always have a soft spot and a sweet tooth for nostalgic candy of course, but we have enough room in our hearts and our candy bowls for favorites new and old! We’re always adding new candy to our brick-and-mortar and online candy stores, and we want to be sure you catch all the coolness, so we’ve put together a short list of some newer lollipops you may have missed that we think you’ll love!

Cupcake Lollipops – These colorful cuties aren’t to be confused with ‘cake pops’ – cupcakes on a lollipop stick. These are all lollipop, and a generous 1.8 ounce each at that! The colors are amazingly vibrant, and the cartoon-like look of the designs is eye-catching and just plain cool. Plus, cupcakes are all the rage right now, but they aren’t always an easy option. For outdoor summer parties, real cupcakes can quickly become a mess, and transporting them is no simple task. Cupcake lollipops on the other hand? Well, those are all wrapped up and ready to party!

Ugly Sucker Lollipops – To some people these may look like snarling, scary goblins and ghouls, but I think they’re simply adorable! With some of the most fun names to hit to lollipop scene, these are a treat to eat and cute to boot. Each huge box of 60 lollipops comes packed with 8 fruity flavors including Butt Ugly Berry Blast, Putrid Pina Colada and Rotton Cotton Candy, my personal fave! Snag some for Halloween, birthday parties, or just-because. It’s always fun to have something sweet and unexpected to offer guests.

Lite Up Ring Pops – An update on a much-loved classic (Don’t worry – regular Ring Pops are still available!), Lite Up Ring Pops come with a bit of brightness tucked inside to illuminate your lolli like never before. Blue Raspberry, Green Apple, Strawberry and Lemon set the sweetness to shine with a flashing light that takes this treat to whole new sensory level!

Which of the lollipops above are you most excited to try? Or is there another new candy that’s caught your eye? Let us know in the comments – we’d love to hear from you!

Blair Candy Announces Our New Custom Candy Bar Box!

Our sugar-powered candy minds are always working overtime to think of the next sweet offering to add to our online shelves. And recently, a big idea hit us so hard that if we were piñatas there would be Tootsie Rolls flying across town! It wasn’t a candy itself that our lineup was lacking; it was a different way to buy candy that makes sense for a lot of our customers.

Variety is the sugar of life, and sometimes we can’t decide between a full box of Baby Ruth Candy Bars and a full box of Butterfinger Bars. Add to the confusion that a sweet tooth on the left has put in a request for some Skittles, while the molar on the right is ready for a workout that only Milk Duds can provide! It’s an all-out candy craving war in there, and if everyone is going to be happy it’s going to mean bringing a LOT of candy into the house. Hmmm…a LOT of candy, you say? Hmmm… OK, back to the topic at hand! Sometimes a lot of candy isn’t what you’re looking for, but you do want a lot of options. And that is what Blair Candy’s Custom Candy Bar Box is all about!

What is this Custom Candy Bar Box that’s blowing up the interwebs, you may ask? Only one of the funnest, most fabulous things we’ve ever rolled out! The idea is simple: for just $21.95 you get to create your own box of 24 full-sized candy favorites. As for the options, we are currently offering over 130 choices! You can double or triple up on any you like – there are no limits whatsoever to how many you choose of each particular candy. And within those 130+ offerings, there isn’t a single candy dud (except the Milk Duds, of course!). This is the candy you crave, the candy you love, the candy that has stood the test of taste and time and come out on the candy top! There are nostalgic candy choices, fresh faces on the candy market, timeless temptations, just about anything you can think of. And while it is named the Custom Candy Bar Box, your choices aren’t limited to bars alone. There’s Bonomo Turkish Taffy, Bottle Caps, Sixlets, Starburst, and so much more.

We think the options are limitless for our hottest new candy creation, and we hope you do too! From thoughtfully delicious birthday gifts, to pick-me-up presents for yourself and friends, this is an awesomely affordable way to bring the perfect palate-pleasing packs of pleasure to the table for less!

Valentine’s Day Peeps: Perfect For Eating and Drinking!

While I must admit that “Yum!” was the first thought that came to mind when the first box of Valentines Peeps rolled into Blair, the second thought was more along the lines of a chin-scratching “Hmm?” I had an idea for these heart-shaped marshmallow munchies, and I’m excited to share it with you!

As if traditional sugar-coated Peeps weren’t delicious enough, the Valentines Peeps lineup features raspberry flavored marshmallow hearts coated in your choice of milk or dark chocolate. Decadent? You bet! Do I feel guilty eating more than one? Nope! These heart-shaped Peeps come but once a year, and I’m not wasting a single second counting how many I’ve managed to unwrap and make disappear!

But I am not content to simply eat these sweet Peeps. Oh no, I had to find a way to drink them as well. Well…to be fair…not quite drink them whole. But add them to 2 drinks I already love to make them even tastier. And those drinks just happen to be coffee and hot cocoa.

I started my Peep experiment with an oversized mug and a piping hot pot of coffee. I plunked a Valentines Peep into the bottom of the empty mug and slowly poured coffee on top, taking care not to splash. As my Peep rose to the top its chocolate coating was already melting, flavoring my coffee and sending sweet smells into the air. The slow melting of the raspberry marshmallow inside followed, lending a slight fruitiness to my drink that I quite enjoyed. When the coffee was gone, there was still some Peep left, which I promptly scooped out with a spoon and enjoyed as a finale!

The rules for the cocoa were much the same, though the cocoa and Peep treat is kid-friendly as well. Just make sure not to prepare it for very young children as the softened Peep may be a choking hazard. I can’t say that even for me it was an easy task to save it for last, so I can only imagine the determination necessary for a child!

If you decide to try taking your coffee or cocoa with a side of Peeps, we’d love to know what you think! In the meantime, we’ll be plopping, pouring, sipping and smiling. :)

Do You Like Your Technology With a Side of Chocolate and Peanut Butter? You Better Get to CES!

We all know by now that in the world of electronics, smaller almost always equals newer, faster, and in general, better. However, were you to ask me this morning if I thought smaller being better applied to candy as well, I’m not sure I would be as certain! But that was this morning, and this is now. Now, after I’ve read this exciting article – Salivate: State-of-the-Art Candy Makes CES Debuts – on BrightSideOfNews.com.

The taste buds of the Blair Candy Crew are no strangers to the allure of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in their many delectable incarnations, and we couldn’t be more excited that they have been crowned the official candy of the Consumer Electronics Show! It takes us back to a time almost 30 years ago, though it seems impossible that it’s been that long, when another Reese’s candy was making waves not of a technological sort, rather the extra-terrestrial variety – Reese’s Pieces. A little blockbuster by the name of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, starring an adorable alien we all instantly loved, helped moved Reese’s Pieces from a forgotten corner of a candy shelf to the front and center of every shelf and every sweet tooths’ cravings.

We had no fear that Reese’s Pieces would be a fleeting fad, for they were the candy equivalent of an incredibly talented actress who just needed her big break. Once they were made popular with E.T.’s help, the public wouldn’t soon (or hopefully ever!) forget how delicious they are. Will the same hold true for Reese’s Mini Peanut Butter Cups, the sweet, petite stars of CES 2011? Will we be writing a blog post almost 30 years from today about a new product slated to take our taste buds by storm, and referencing the then-classic Reeses’s Minis? Will there even be blogs in 30 years?! Only time will tell. And in the years between now and then, all we can do is eat, evaluate, and repeat. And with the name Reese’s on the package, I have a feeling I’ll be repeating quite often! See ya in 30 years, whether it be by blog or while passing each other in flying cars. ;)

Understanding Gluten Sensitivity With The Help Of OVitaminPro.com

If you’ve read our recent blog post, “BlairCandy.com Is Your Store For Gluten Free Candy!”, you know we care about helping people on gluten free diets in still being able to enjoy their favorite sweets. After all, it’s your life, and you want to be able to eat the delicious foods you want. Of course, if you’re on a gluten free diet, you still want to be careful and maintain your health, with our Gluten Free Candy being a wonderful candy option for you.

We recently had the great pleasure of coming across the friendly folks at OVitaminPro.com and their Gluten Sensitivity Support section. There is unfortunately no substitute for gluten, and it’s always best to follow doctor’s orders if you’re on a gluten free diet. However, many foods can contain hidden sources of gluten, and products like GlutenFlam can help aid in a more complete digestion of gluten.

If you or someone close to you is on a gluten free diet, it’s important to learn as much as possible about gluten sensitivity problems. Not only does it show you care, but can do a world of good in helping educate you on gluten problems and conditions that can be related to gluten. OVitaminPro.com has a two-part CD series that includes a wealth of gluten-related information – Gluten Sensitivity Part I and Gluten Sensitivity Part II.

Through our blog posts and gluten free candy section, we hope to educate all of our readers on how common gluten sensitivity is (as many as 1 in 3 people in North American have gluten-related issues!) and the different aspects of the condition. Here’s to OVitaminPro.com for helping us learn more about the science behind gluten free diets!
