Sweeten Up this Spring with New Candy from Blair!

We’ve got so much amazing new candy here at Blair, we couldn’t resist putting it in the spotlight any longer! From Sugar Free Life Savers to our Movie Theater Candy Gift Tub, we’ve been scouring the globe for the latest and greatest treats, and creating a few of our own in the process. Let’s take a closer look at a few of my personal favorites, shall we? I knew you’d say ‘yes’! 🙂

Smarties Gummies – 24 rolls per box – 10 yummy gummies per roll! In flavors of strawberry, orange, lemon, green apple and grape, this latest addition to the Smarties family of flavor is a two-toned gummy with a slightly creamy side. They are gluten-free and vegan, but are made in a facility that processes wheat and milk ingredients. And… they’re delicious and unique! Relying on the same style packaging as Smarties, they really stand out in a candy bowl or favor bag.

Candy Blox – 4.5 oz. box – tons of fun inside! The moment Candy Blox arrived at Blair Candy headquarters, yours truly was tearing open a box with childlike excitement and anticipation of supremely sweet fun. Let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed! While I was eventually pleasantly surprised by their terrific fruity flavor, the fun started way before I chomped down on one. These candies are actually designed to be played with, and play with them you will! Just be sure to wash your hands first, because eventually your taste buds will start calling the shots and you’ll find whatever you’ve built working its way toward your mouth!

Jolly Rancher Bites – 10 oz. bag – Go ahead – bite ’em! Love the impossibly fruity freshness of Jolly Ranchers, but simply can’t resist biting down before the time is right? Jolly Rancher Bites are here to save the day and your teeth! And, this bag in particular stars 2 of the most sought-after flavors – Green Apple and Watermelon. With over 100 pieces of flavorful goodness inside, Jolly Rancher Bites are the best of both worlds – Jolly Rancher yummy in a gummy!

The Best Candy Gift for Baseball Lovers is Born!

While we do love offering up pre-made candy gifts that catch our eye and happily end up in our inventory, we couldn’t help but crave the same sugar rush that came when we created our popular Custom Candy Bar Box. We loved the satisfaction that came with offering gift-givers everywhere an opportunity to personalize a truly awesome present for just $25, and from the first day it was available  on our site, you showed us that you loved it, too!

While our Custom Candy Bar Box is still a favorite that excites us, we wanted to feel the pure adrenaline of something brand new. What can we say – we’re candypreneurs! And, we came up with just the thing, at the exact right time. The latest homerun at Blair is our Can of Ball Park Treats – currently on sale for just $24.95!

We start with a gift-worthy, generously sized paint-style can, with a label that hints at the tremendous selection of treats inside. Then, working with only the finest, freshest baseball candy and snacks, we fill that tin to the brim with about 59 wrapped goodies! These include: 2 Bags of Planters Peanuts, 2 Bags of Cracker Jacks, 2 Bags of David’s Sunflower Seeds, 2 Cans of Jack Link’s Jerky Chew, 2 packs of Big League Chew, 5 Gummy Hotdogs, 5 Gummy Burgers, 8 BB Bats Taffy Lollipops, over 30 pieces of Baseball Gum, and – of course – a pack of baseball cards!

Great gifts for baseball lovers, these are also a fun tin-o-treats to pick up for yourself. You can also grab one or two to offer up in a raffle or baseball fundraiser, or to serve as tasty centerpieces at a baseball banquet or baseball-themed birthday party!

What do you think of our Can of Ball Park Treats? Do you agree we hit it out of the park with this one, or is there a candy player you would have included in the starting lineup that we missed? Let us know in the comments – and, in the meantime – play ball! Or at least eat sunflower seeds and chew some Big League like you do. 😉

Unwrapping The 2012 Sweets & Snacks Expo

Wow, has this month flown by! One minute we were packing for the National Confectioners Association’s Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago, and the next, we were celebrating Memorial Day weekend! It’s been a busy month for us, with planning our move to our sparkling new (and much larger!) candy warehouse, debuting our new Candy By Decades section on our website, and of course – attending the Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago from May 8-10.

A whopping 570+ candy and snack companies exhibited their wares at the Sweets & Snacks Expo, debuting new candy and snack varieties that they hope will sell well this coming year. We came home with tons of tasty treats for our Blair Candy team to taste test and decide whether we should place them on our online candy store shelves. We were one of about 15,000 professionals in the candy industry to attend, and we had a wonderful time networking with candy companies and other candy and snack stores. We also reflected on the growth of the candy and snack industry through keynote sessions and learned some innovative marketing ideas to help us only grow.

Here’s a glimpse into the sweet life – at the Sweets and Snacks Expo 2012!

Keep a close eye on our online candy store shelves – we’re excited to be adding some of the fun new candy discovered at the Sweets & Snacks Expo!

Making That Birthday Gift Box So Much Sweeter

We’ve been making lots of candy-coated changes here at Blair Candy over the last few months, including moving soon into our brand new candy warehouse. We’ve just debuted another “new” – our Candy By Decades section on our website! We say with pride and affection that we’re pretty nuts about candy, and we’ve long been in wonderment on the different types of sweets that have blossomed from various decades over the last century. Doesn’t it just make sense that Fun Dip debuted in the same decade as when we needed a little “carefree” in our lives post-WWII?

We found ourselves chatting with many a customer on candy gift ideas, including offering up gift suggestions that relate to the gift recipient’s birth year or the decade they grew up in, so we figured, hey, why not make it easy and create a category of candy from each decade? A great birthday gift idea is to pair candy from the decade they were born or grew up in with a small gift that fits into that decade, as well! We put our heads together and came up with some awesome ideas for you:

  • Candy From The 20s: Pair some Caramel Creams, Chiclets, and Clark Bars with Betty Boop memorabilia, a typewriter key bracelet, or a Babe Ruth figurine.
  • Candy From The 30s: Combine delish Candy Buttons, PayDay bars, and Snickers with a so retro “tick tock” cat clock, Fedora hat, or a sleek cocktail shaker.
  • Candy From The 40s: Wrap up Junior Mints, Bazooka bubble gum, and Fun Dip in a package with a vintage pin-up girl poster, WWII coin collection, and a pack of Coca-Cola in the original Coke “bottle” look.
  • Candy From The 50s: Put a bow on a gift of Candy necklaces, Dum Dum lollipops, and Satellite Wafers by pairing it with a whimsical Gumby and Pokey set, Silly Putty, and a retro apron.
  • Candy From The 60s: Reflect on one fun decade by combining a gift of Gummy Swedish Fish, Fruit Stripe Gum, and Twizzlers with a tie-dyed shirt, Beatles poster, and a space shuttle figurine.
  • Candy From The 70s: Break that disco ball out and give a gift of PopRocks, Laffy Taffy, and Bubble Yum, along with a disco ball keychain, lava lamp, or anything with “groovy” written on it!
  • Candy From The 80s: Celebrate this neon-hued decade with a gift of Gummy Bears, Runts, and Nerds, paired with a so-fun Atari video game, Pac-Man wind-up toys, and a Rubik’s cube.

These are just a few ideas that our sugar-filled team came up with – what are some Candy By Decade candy and gift pairings that you’ve gifted or would love to gift?

Out With The Old, And In With The New – New Candy For 2012!

2011 was a banner year for all of us here at Blair Candy, and we couldn’t be more thankful for it! We appreciate all of our loyal customers and can’t wait to ring in 2012. As the champagne corks pop and the bubbles flow this New Year’s Eve, our candylicious team is excited for all the New Candy for 2012! As you’re belting out Auld Lang Syne when that glittering ball drops (or prying your eyelids open to stay awake!), come along with us as we get ready for the sweets 2012 has in store for us.

M&M's Mint Dark Chocolate

M&M’s Mint Dark Chocolate – Mint and chocolate have long been refreshing pals, and they’re coming to us as the small, round chocolate candy favorites that we know and love. Dark chocolate is also known for its health benefits, so let’s clink to health and M&M’s Mint Dark Chocolate at midnight!

3 Musketeer Coconut – I certainly want 3 Musketeer’s signature chocolate-coated nougat to be a part of my 2012, and now that they’re adding coconut flavor to that nougat? Oh, what a slice of heaven. It has 40% less fat than most candy bars, so I can still stick to those weight loss New Year’s resolutions I’ll totally not keep this year!

Jolly Rancher Crunch n Chew – Jolly Rancher has continually reinvented itself, from hard candies to gummies and lollipops. We’d love to add some jolly to our 2012, and with their hard outside and chewy inside, we’re ready to sink our teeth into 365 days of cherry, green apple, watermelon, and blue raspberry.

Pez Muppets – Did you love the Muppets movie as much as we did? We can’t get enough of Kermit, Miss Piggy, Elmo and the gang, and they’re in Pez form for 2012! Keep a pack in your pocket, and you’ll be in for a sugary delight to make your 2012 a candy-coated one.

Our New Year’s resolution this year? Simple – make it a sweet one. As Ernestine Ulmer’s delicious quote goes, “Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first.” Nostalgic Candy will never be forgotten, but oh, we’re toasting to a 2012 filled with candy and chocolate fabulousness. Happy New Year!

Stocking Stuffers That Look Good Enough to Eat…Because They Are!

If your Christmas Morning Agenda (CMA) is similar to mine, the first thing you reach for with one groggily-opened eye is your stocking. And apart from it simply being tradition, there are a few very good reasons the stocking gets top billing. Not only does it hold the little things I so love, but it’s also easy to drag back to the recliner with me where I can plop it in my lap and open everything slowly while I struggle to really wake up! Also, if Santa was good to me, I’ll find breakfast inside my stocking, too. And not the bacon and eggs variety…even better. The candy kind of breakfast. The kind you only get to enjoy on special holidays (and when no one’s looking; don’t judge me!)

While everyone’s Christmas candy preferences vary, with the possible exception of Reese’s Peanut Butter Trees, which I’m pretty sure everyone loves, we have a few nearly foolproof ideas for adding Christmas breakfast to the stockings you’re in charge of stuffing this year. It is, after all, the most important meal of the day – even Christmas Day. 😉

Marshmallow Christmas Lollipops – Ooey, gooey goodness in Santa and Snowmen shapes, these plump lollipops are almost too cute to eat. Except, well…no matter how cute they are I’ll eat them anyway! Just don’t eat them too close to the fire. Santa is a winter weather kinda guy, and we all know how well snowmen handle the heat. There’s a song and a movie about it and everything.

Milk Chocolate Hershey Snowman – Generously-sized at 3.5 ounces, this festive little fella is the perfect culinary complement to the Christmas lollipops above. Sometimes the simplest sweets are the best, and Hershey’s reminds us of that time and again with every holiday-themed incarnation of their classic milk chocolate bar. Or should we say mmmilk chocolate bar!

Gummy Peaches – With the marshmallow and chocolate food groups taken care of, it’s time to freshen the palate with something fruity and fun to wear on my fingertips. Yup – gummy peaches! Starting with the left hand, I push a gummy peach to the top knuckle of each finger, excluding the thumb. The right hand is next, and it’s admittedly a tad bit tougher with gummy peaches already on every finger of the left hand. Nevertheless, I press on! I then happily wiggle my 8 peachy digits at anyone who will pay attention to me, before consuming them one at a tasty time.

Now that you know a little more about my CMA, I’d love to hear about yours! Will you be sitting in your own recliner working your way through the candy food groups your stocking holds, or do have different traditions you’re looking forward to this year?

New Candy Picks You May Have Missed!

I am writing this post while curled up on the sofa, wrapped in a warm blanket, my mind and body swimming with sugar, surrounded by piles of empty wrappers. Yes…it’s Halloween night! I’ve consumed enough Laffy Taffy to giggle for days, and enough snack size chocolate bars to build a buffet. You might assume that having eaten more than my share of sweets, they would be the furthest thing from my mind, yet that is simply not the case! But instead of thinking of the traditional Halloween candy, of which I have just immensely partaken, my mind is on the Halloween candy of the future. Or, more specifically, the new candy of today that may become the traditional candy of the future.

With all the exciting new treats that are created every year, and the fact that most of us (myself included) most often eat the same few favorites we’ve been eating for as long as we can remember, it can be easy to miss some bright new stars in the candy circuit. But for as satisfying as Peanut M&Ms may be, and as perfectly sweet as Trolli Gummi Peaches, its only fair to give the new candies a taste as well, for their benefit and our own! After all, what if nobody every tried that first handful of Peanut M&Ms many years ago and they weren’t still with us today? I know, I’m sorry…I shouldn’t have gone there. It’s too horrible to imagine, but I’m trying to make a point, so bear with me! And my point is simply that we should take a peek and lend a taste bud or two to some of the newest candy creations…

Hershey’s Air Delight Chocolate Bars – You already know how delicious Hershey’s chocolate is, and that much of the enjoyment of eating chocolate is in relishing its many tantalizing consistencies, so it’s only natural to want to give a new consistency a try – aerated chocolate! Bursting with airy bubbles, the Air Delight bar is unlike anything you’ve ever tried before, while still being decidedly ‘Hershey’s.’

Skittles Blenders – As far as I’m concerned, with the possible exception of the green ones (sorry, green fans!), original Skittles are pretty much perfection in the non-chocolate category o’ candy. They’re my go-to favorite at the movies, I NEVER get tired of them, and even after all these years I can’t decide if I like the red or purple better. Ahh, they’re both so good! And the orange, and the yellow… Yes, original Skittles will make my ‘5 Candies You Can Bring to a Deserted Island List’ every time, no matter what. But for as strongly as I feel that the original is their best work, I have to admit that I’ve recently been more drawn to Skittles Blenders. It may be the rush of a new romance; the way the Melon Berry Burst makes me feel young again! It may be their brilliantly bright colors. It may be the way they dance across my tongue, exploding in a fruity splash of Skittles-tastic-ness! Whatever it is, please don’t tell original Skittles. I’m sure I’ll return to my true love one day, but for now I’m rather enjoying my Blenders adventures!

Sugar Free Peeps: A New Halloween Candy Must-Have!

It’s no secret that candy can be a sweet part of a balanced diet, whether you are on the path toward losing a few pounds, working to maintain your current weight, or are simply mindful of everything you eat on the journey to be as healthy as possible. What most of us have learned, whether we like it or not, is moderation is key! It turns out there is a difference between one serving of Peanut M&M’s and one bag of Peanut M&M’s. Oops. And as we all know too well, M&M’s are far from the only candy that makes a limit a tricky task. One other such treat is marshmallow Peeps.

Sure, we open the package knowing we should just have one or two. We open the package with the best of intentions. We open the package thinking, “These Peeps will last me a week! I will have no more than 2 per day, because I have self control!” But…that doesn’t always happen. And it’s not our fault! Once that ooey-gooey goodness touches the tongue, stepping on the brakes is so hard. Once that plump, pillow of sweet marshmallow finds its way to your mouth you are no longer responsible for what becomes of the package of Peeps. You are only human! Since the dawn of time, humans have been no match for marshmallows. It’s just science!

Shed no tears, marshmallow-lover. In this great battle between a balanced diet and that undefeated enemy – Peeps – there is someone in your corner. Someone you may have least expected. Yes, coming into the ring with an orange satin robe trailing behind is none other than Sugar Free Peeps! *The crowd goes wild!*

Who is this Sugar Free Peeps? What is the relation to regular Peeps? Don’t worry, there isn’t a soap opera-worthy family rivalry that you’ll find yourself smack dab in the middle of. Sugar Free Peeps and regular Peeps are practically besties! They’re both cute and colorful, and they both taste delicious. It’s just that the Sugar Free variety aren’t as likely to leave you bouncing off the walls at midnight because you accidentally ate six servings while you were watching Law & Order. They’re also a great choice for people who must closely watch their sugar intake, and those who simply prefer the taste of Splenda. As for me? I think I’ll keep both in the cupboard. I can “mmmm” my way through a pack of Sugar Free Peeps any day, but sometimes I like to bounce off the walls at midnight. When else is the bathroom going to get cleaned?! 🙂

Sugar Free and Gluten Free Halloween Candy at Blair!

Whether you are shopping for candy that works with your own dietary needs, or want to ensure that every Trick-or-Treater that stops by will find something that suits their needs in your bowl, our Sugar Free Halloween Candy and Gluten Free Halloween Candy sections are for you!

Following a gluten free or sugar-conscious diet can be tricky at times, and the holidays are perhaps the hardest times of all. But for as difficult as it can be to turn down a treat that it seems everyone but you can eat, you know you’re doing what’s best for you! And luckily, while you, your children, or a few Trick-or-Treaters may have restrictions on what they can consume, candy is not an all-or-nothing indulgence. In fact, BlairCandy.com offers a delicious assortment of sugar free candy and gluten free candy that would tempt any tastebud!

Gluten Free Halloween Candy

Many people are surprised by some of the candy they find in our gluten free selection. These aren’t specialty candies that you’ve never heard of – they’re favorites that we’ve all been happily enjoying for many years. They just happen to be gluten free as well as scrumdiddlyumptious! Some All-Stars you might recognize best include Butterfinger candy bars, M&M’s, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Gummy candy is also often gluten free, and your many mouthwatering options include Gummy Peaches, Trolli Strawberry Puffs, and a favorite of so many kids – Sour Gummy Worms!

Sugar Free Halloween Candy

What’s soft, orange, oh-so-yummy, and melts in your mouth? We’ll give you a hint…It’s not carrots, and it rhymes with ‘beeps’. Ohhh, it must be Peeps! But these aren’t just any Peeps; these are Sugar Free Peeps shaped like pumpkins! Each pack contains three petite Peep pumpkins sweetened with Splenda, ready to brighten your day the sugar free way.

Prefer something that lasts a little longer? Because let’s face it…if there are Peeps in the house, they don’t exactly get a lot of time in the pantry before they’re in someone’s belly. And for those times that you need a sugar free candy fix and the Peeps have gone missing, or you are filling a few sugar free Halloween treat bags to have at the ready, our selection of Brach’s sugar free hard candy makes a sweet choice. Choose from sugar free versions of candy classics we all love, including butterscotch hard candy and cinnamon hard candy.

To make it easy for kids and parents alike to know you have sugar free and gluten free candy available for Trick-or-Treaters, consider setting up 3 baskets or boxes to hold your Halloween treat bags. Simply attach a ‘Sugar Free Halloween Candy’ index card to one, and a ‘Gluten Free Halloween Candy’ index card to another to separate the sweets. Affixing the identifying cards with a clothespin should do the trick for your treats!

Cool, Colorful Halloween Lollipops Are Frighteningly Fun and Flavorful!

Just like a book, a person, and countless other things in life, you can’t always judge a candy by its cover. There are plenty of sweets out there that might not win a beauty contest, but are a beautiful treat to the tongue where it counts! But just as we can’t assume less-than-pretty candies won’t be delicious, we also can’t assume that candy with a cute, clever and colorful style is getting by on looks alone. Yes, some candies really do have it all – the eye-catching appeal, the delicious flavor, and in some cases, their own handle! OK, to be fair it’s not really a handle, it’s a stick. But it sure does make eating lollipops easier, and lollipops are what we’re looking at today. Halloween Lollipops, to be exact, since Halloween is fast on its way! 😀

Coffin Creepers Halloween Lollipops – As if the clever coffin packaging wasn’t enough to make these a must-have, the adorable little creatures peeking out from the windows captured every heart at Blair the moment these arrived. One of my favorite things about Halloween is all things ‘scary cute’, and these are topping my list this year. As for the flavors, my personal fave is Bone Rattlin’ Blue Raspberry (plus, I can’t resist his oversize innocent smile!), but Vampire Very Cherry and Mummy Wrap Green Apple are scary good as well.

Crazy Bones Lollipops – These tiny little lollis feature a fruity, round lollipop top attached to…a plastic arm or leg! Yes, where you might expect the elbow or knee to be you’ll find candy instead, which means that while eating a Crazy Bones lollipops everyone sees a little hand or little foot peeking out of your mouth! As for the flavors, these come in an assortment of classics: orange, grape and green apple. And while we don’t know for sure, we think they taste better than a real arm or leg by a landslide!

Twister Terror Halloween Lollipops – These cherry-flavored lollipops have a funky, modern feel to them, but also have an element of classic candy charm with their twist design. This update on an old-fashioned candy store staple is re-imagined in the shades of Halloween – orange, black and white – and decked out with 4 awesome Halloween rings per pop before being wrapped and cinched with a black ribbon! These make a memorable treat for friends, family and trick-or-treaters, who always remember the houses that give out the best stuff!
